Why does my hash differ from another generator?

Hash functions operate on exact bytes. A trailing space, hidden line break, different character encoding or capitalization change will produce a completely different digest. This tool uses UTF-8.

Can I reverse or decrypt a generated hash?

A cryptographic hash is a one-way digest, not encryption. This calculator does not reverse hashes. For authorized lookup workflows, DorkPlus Dehasher is available separately.

Are MD5 and SHA-1 safe for passwords?

No. MD5 and SHA-1 are fast legacy digest algorithms and should not be used for new password storage. Modern applications should use a salted password-hashing algorithm such as Argon2id, scrypt or bcrypt.

What is the MySQL 4.1+ hash format?

MySQL 4.1+ password values use SHA-1 twice and are displayed as an asterisk followed by 40 uppercase hexadecimal characters. The legacy MySQL 3.23 format uses a different 16-character algorithm.

Generar hashes no protege contraseñas

MD5 and SHA digests are deterministic: the same input always produces the same output. That makes them useful for checksums, cache keys, fixtures and controlled compatibility tests, but unsalted fast hashes are not suitable for storing modern passwords.

For new password storage, use a slow password-hashing scheme such as Argon2id, scrypt or bcrypt with an appropriate salt and cost. This calculator intentionally generates formats—it does not claim to secure a password or recover a value from a hash.
